St. Vincent de Paul
The Society of SVDP
Who we are
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Catholic lay organization that addresses the two great commandments: love of God and love of neighbor. Today, there are more than 44,000 parish conferences with over 800,000 members in 154 countries. Unlike social service agencies, the society is not simply a material service provider.
how SVDP Helps
The primary call of the Vincentian life is to see Christ in those we serve. By loving those we serve in this way, we also become the face of God to our neighbors in need. We share the Good News of God’s love, forgiveness, and loving kindness by living out these actions when we interact with the people we serve and with our fellow Vincentians. The core work of the Society is the home visit. We visit the homes of people near us who have requested assistance, and in these ‘person to person’ encounters we offer a listening ear, emotional and spiritual support, and material help. In rural areas, such as here at Sacred Heart Parish, the needy may not be as obvious as a homeless person in Dade City or downtown in a big city, because they are more hidden from our view.
